Who knew?

I hate to post two diaries in one day, but this is just too good to pass up.

Apparently, Nash is still adding new skills to his game even in the midst of the season. From today's AZCentral:

==========quote===============
Nash went north of the rim in Monday's practice. Nash dunked left-handed twice and finished an alley-oop pass from Bell after D'Antoni asked Nash, "Am I lying to people that you can dunk?" "I think he surprised himself," D'Antoni said.
==============================

Hmm... Maybe it's just me, but I kind of wish this information had been saved for one of those inevitable rough spots every team encounters in the playoffs. A Nash dunk would have been good for at least one game-winning momentum change I think. It still might, but now the word is out so it won't be as much a surprise.

Poll
Should Nash break out the dunk in a game?
  • Yes, bring it on ANY TIME!
  • Yes, but he should save it for the playoffs.
  • No, he could get hurt doing that.

More about Nash's dunks
From East Valley Tribune:

============quote============
Still worried about Steve Nash's shoulder? Apparently Suns coach Mike D'Antoni wasn't when he asked Nash during Monday's practice if he was leading people astray when he tells them that Nash can dunk.

Nash immediately answered with a couple of left-handed jams -- with plenty of air to spare -- before finishing a Raja Bell pass with a right-handed, alley-oop throw-down that left teammates howling.

For those of you have have local broadcast access, did they ever show video of this?

Dunks
IMO Nash should leave the dunking to Amare and Shawn, and occasionally to Diaw and Burke. He is more valuable as an assist leader and a clutch shooter.  I cringe every time he takes a 'charge' to help the team. At least that actually helps. The dunks are not needed. All we need are points, wins and a healthy Steve Nash.

No sense of fun!
Come on, Vash! Are you telling me you wouldn't get a thrill out of seeing Nash throw it down just one time to get his team motivated during a playoff game? I don't want to see him dunking all the time either, but jamming one down every once in a while wouldn't be so bad, as long as he does it when there's minimal risk of landing on someone's foot, etc. He takes more of a risk when he goes charging into the paint with some big, bad 7-footer waiting IMO than he would attempting the occasional, "clear-path" dunk. Again, he doesn't need to dunk ALL the time, just maybe a handful of times a season, stratigically placed for when his team needs it most.

LOL!
I am too afraid of Nash getting injured to enjoy those dunks. Actually he is an aberration. Which other 6-3 guy has dominated the whole league the way Nash has?
